I don't know if Rodney had the time to answer you, so I apologize if I'm repeating any info. (I've just taken over the task of responding to emails.)

How can there be a "balance" [between the environmentalists' demands and private property ownership] that can offset theft? The King County Council committee meeting last Tuesday was pretty frustrating -- the Democrats seem determined to steal our property!

Monday, July 26, there is a NO CAO Rally at 9 am at the Marymoor Park
Mansion.  The King County Council is scheduled to be there for a town hall
meeting.

Tuesday, July 27, 1:30 pm on the tenth floor of the King County Courthouse
(516 Third Ave, downtown Seattle) is the King County Council committee
meeting on the CAO.  They plan to pass it out of committee and on to the
full council that day.  If you plan to testify, come early to get your name
on the sign-up sheet.  They will allow you 2 minutes maximum to speak!

Please check out our web site -- www.proprights.org -- if you'd like to make a contribution, you
can print the form from your computer -- anyone who contributes is a member
for the current year, which is through March.  We're in this for the long
haul; the CAO is our current major battle.  If you'd like to designate a $10
portion of your contribution to a one-year (six issues) subscription to our
newsletter, The Naked Fish, just indicate that on the envelope.

We are also in the process of setting up a second organization, CAPR Legal
Center, that is a 501(c)3 non-profit group.  Donations to this fund will be
tax-deductible, and will not have to be reported to under Washington's
public disclosure laws, as this money will not be used for campaigns,
lobbying etc.

Do you need any NO CAO signs?  Copies of the CAO edition of the newspaper
The Naked Fish?

Also, please make sure to email everyone in your address book (and ask them
to do the same) and have them send emails to ALL the King County Council
members -- it really does have an impact.

THANKS for your support!

Rodney - here's Patterson's reply to my initial email FYI.
She sounds confused!  Anybody letting this idea get this far is very scary to me!

Dear Mr. Venrick,

Thank you for your email regarding the Critical Areas Ordinances and the update to the King County Comprehensive Plan.  While I do not serve on the Growth Management Committee (the committee currently analyzing the proposal before it comes to the full Council in September), I have been meeting with concerned property owners, environmental groups and I have toured a number of rural properties to gain a first hand perspective on the legislation's potential impacts on the environment and property owners.

The challenge before us is how to most appropriately balance environmental protections with the rights of property owners.  This is no doubt a difficult task. The Growth Management Committee has spent hundreds of hours meeting with concerned citizens, holding public hearings and analyzing this complex legislation.

I very much appreciate hearing from my constituents on this issue as I continue to analyze the proposal.

Thank you again for contacting me and letting your views be known.

Sincerely,

Julia Patterson
